Women’s Soccer Endures 4-0 Loss to Westfield State at Springfield College Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Westfield State Saturday evening on the second day of the Springfield College Tournament. The Lions slip to 0-2 on the year while the Owls rise to 2-0 overall.
Westfield State opened the scoring early in the match, finding the back of the net in the eighth minute. Kayley Miller put the Owls ahead 1-0 as Brittanie McGregor picked up an assist on the play.
In the 15th minute, Ashleigh Chretien increased the margin to two goals while Miller added the assist. Westfield State notched its third tally of the first frame in the 22nd minute to grab a 3-0 lead. McGregor potted her team-leading second goal of the season and Leann Rivard recorded her first assist of the campaign.
The Owls boasted a 3-0 advantage at halftime while also owning a 9-0 edge in shots through 45 minutes of action.
Ashley Bovat capped off the scoring with her first marker of the fall in the 58th minute. McGregor registered her second assist of the match on Bovat's second-half tally.
Westfield State finished with a 17-1 gap in shots and a 5-2 margin in corner kicks earned on the evening.
Sophomore Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) fired Eastern Nazarene's lone shot in the contest.
Between the posts, sophomore Rachel Henry (Lowell, Mass.) stopped six shots in 90 minutes of play. On the other end of the pitch, Jess Habif earned her second win of the season for the Owls.
The Lions will look to capture their first win of 2012 as they remain on the road with a non-conference game at UMass Boston September 5 at 3:30 pm.
