Women’s Basketball Posts 57-46 Road Win at Dean
FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team ran its winning-streak to a dozen games with a 57-46 victory at Dean Thursday evening.
The Lions rise to 13-1 on the season with the win and sustain their first-place position in the New England Collegiate Conference standings with a 7-0 league mark. The Bulldogs dip to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play with the result.
Stevie Orton (Gilford, N.H.) scored a team-best 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Jenn Burnham (West Valley City, Utah) poured in 14 points and added three boards. Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) chipped in with eight points off the bench. Seniesha Sekaquaptewa (Second Mesa, Ariz.) finished with five rebounds, four assists, and four points on the night.
After the home side built an early lead, the visitors clawed back with an 8-0 run to seize an 11-7 edge with 4:02 left to play in the first quarter on a three-point play by Burnham.
Eastern Nazarene sported a 15-11 advantage through 10 minutes of action.
Dean cut the deficit to 20-18 on a three-pointer by Alexis Ford with 5:25 to go in the second frame.
The Lions answered with eight-straight points to widen the gap to double-digits, 28-18, with 1:33 remaining in the first half.
The guests boasted a seven-point halftime lead, 28-21, after edging the hosts 13-10 in second quarter scoring.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up 19 points in the third period while Dean mustered just five points as the Lions headed to the fourth quarter ahead 47-26.
Dean strung together a 14-0 run spanning nearly six minutes to narrow the margin to 55-44 with 1:17 remaining in regulation.
Both teams tallied two points in the final minute of the game as Eastern Nazarene earned its 12th-consecutive victory and remained undefeated in conference competition.
The Lions shot 28.6% on the night and connected on just 4-of-26 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 29.6% to go with 11.8% shooting from three-point territory.
Makayla Rudder paced Dean with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Alexah Potter netted 20 points.
