Kyra Fleharty Nets 1,000th Collegiate Point as Women’s Basketball Defeats Bay Path
QUINCY, Mass.- Senior Kyra Fleharty (Lewistown, Mont.) tallied her 1,000th collegiate point as the Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team extended its winning-streak to 10 games with a 107-34 victory over Bay Path Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions climb to 12-1 on the season and remain unbeaten New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play with a 6-0 mark. The Wildcats drop to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in league action with the result.
Fleharty finished with 10 points on the night, bringing her career total to 1,006. Prior to arriving at Eastern Nazarene, Fleharty amassed 529 career points in two seasons at Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana. In her two years with the Lions, Fleharty has scored 477 points.
Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) poured in a game-high 19 points and grabbed five boards off the bench. Morgan Vurek (Daly City, Calif.) finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Nahatabaa Nacona (Chinle, Ariz.) notched 16 points, eight boards, four assists, and three steals. Seneisha Sekaquaptewa (Second Mesa, Ariz.) recorded nine points and seven assists.
The home side opened the game with eight unanswered points to establish an 8-0 edge.
After the visitors cut the deficit to five, Eastern Nazarene strung together a 9-0 run to widen the gap to 19-5 with 3:45 remaining in the first period.
The Lions boasted a 26-12 advantage through 10 minutes of action.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up the first eight points of the second quarter to extend its lead to 34-12 with 7:34 left to play.
The hosts stretched the margin to 36 points with 1:20 to go in the second quarter on a free throw by Sekaquaptewa, 56-20.
The Lions boasted a 56-22 advantage at the halftime break.
Midway through the contest, Oviatt paced the Lions with nine points off the bench while Fleharty notched eight points. Stevie Orton (Gilford, N.H.) and Vurek each registered six points in the first half and Janeth Cruz (Reseda, Calif.) collected six rebounds to go with four points.
Eastern Nazarene shot 52.4% from the floor and 38.5% from beyond the arc in the first half. Bay Path managed a field-goal percentage of 29.2% while connecting on 2-of-6 from three-point range in the opening two quarters.
The Lions outscored the Wildcats 29-5 in the third frame to push their lead to 85-27 heading to the fourth quarter.
The home team reached the century mark for the second time this season as Bailey Craig (Placerville, Calif.) splashed a straight-away trey with 5:01 left in regulation.
Eastern Nazarene poured in 22 points in the final period while limiting the visitors to seven to record its highest points total this year.
The Lions concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 53.8% and sank a season-best 13 attempts from three-point territory. Bay Path shot 23.5% from the floor and 23.1% from behind the arc on the night.
Heaven Rodriquez netted a team-high 19 points for the Wildcats while Emmeline Bronson chipped in with 11 points.
