Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Bay Path, 79-23
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team coasted to a 79-23 victory over Bay Path Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Lions improve to 12-4 on the year and 7-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with the win. The Wildcats slide to 1-14 overall and 0-10 in league action with the result.
Sydni Oviatt (Fruit Heights, Utah) finished with 11 points and added six rebounds off the bench while Jenn Burnham (West Valley City, Utah) also netted 11 points. Stella Dulay (Santa Maria, Calif.) posted nine points and Kyra Fleharty (Lewistown, Mont.) chipped in with eight points and five boards.
The hosts erased an early 3-0 deficit with a three consecutive lay-ups to grab a 6-3 advantage with 6:36 left in the first frame.
Farrow knocked down a mid-range jumper late in the first quarter as Eastern Nazarene boasted a 14-9 lead after the opening period.
The Lions chalked up nine unanswered points to extend the margin to 29-11 with 4:04 remaining in the second.
At the break, Eastern Nazarene sported a 37-17 advantage after shooting 50% from the floor in the first half. Bay Path posted a field-goal percentage of 38.9% through the opening two quarters.
After the two squads traded buckets to open the third quarter, the home side rattled off a 24-0 run to widen the gap to 63-19 heading to the fourth. The Lions outscored the Wildcats 26-2 and held the visitors scoreless for 9:26 in the third period.
Eastern Nazarene strung together 14-straight points to push its lead to 58 with 1:50 remaining in regulation, 79-21.
The Lions finished with 16 points in the fourth quarter while limiting Bay Path to just four points.
The Lions concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 51.5% to go with 5-for-17 from three-point range. The Wildcats shot 27.8% from the floor and missed all three attempts from beyond the arc on the night.
Emmeline Bronson paced Bay Path with a game-high 12 points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Dean January 26.
