Women’s Basketball Prevails 64-50 at Pine Manor
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team picked up its sixth-straight win Saturday afternoon, downing Pine Manor 64-50 in non-conference action.
The Lions improve to 6-1 on the season with the victory while the Gators slide to 1-5 overall.
Courtney Barba (Pismo Beach, Calif.) netted a team-best 10 points and added three steals. Kyra Fleharty (Lewistown, Mont.) posted nine points, three steals, and one block. Emma Farrow (Blanchester, Ohio) chipped in with six points and seven rebounds off the bench. Mya Timms (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with seven points and six rebounds.
The two teams traded the lead six times in a closely-contested opening quarter. Eastern Nazarene held a narrow 12-10 edge through 10 minutes of play.
The visitors strung together a 12-0 run to start the second period and extend their lead to 24-10 with 3:17 left to play in the first half.
Eastern Nazarene boasted a 26-16 lead at the break after shooting 36.1% from the floor while limiting Pine Manor to 6-of-27 from the field in the first two frames.
The Lions widened the gap to 16 points with 6:43 remaining in the third, 37-21, as Fleharty tossed in a layup.
The guests sported a 54-35 advantage after outscoring the home side 28-19 in a high-scoring third quarter.
Eastern Nazarene managed 10 points in the fourth frame while Pine Manor chalked up 15 as the Lions secured their sixth win in a row.
The Lions shot 37.3% from the floor and connected on just 1-of-12 from three-point range on the day. The Gators finished with a field-goal percentage of 29.2% to go with 2-of-10 shooting from behind the arc.
Arielle Harrell scored a game-high 20 points to lead Pine Manor while Oceane Tabbak added 15 points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns home to face Elms December 4 in a New England Collegiate Conference tilt.
