Women's Basketball's BreAnna Fraser Attends ‘So You Want To Be A Coach’ Program at WBCA Convention
Senior BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) of the Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "So You Want To Be A Coach" program conducted at the 2017 WBCA National Conventional March 29-31 in Dallas, Texas in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Women's Final Four.
The "So You Want To Be A Coach" program assists female collegiate basketball players who are interested in pursuing a career in coaching women's basketball by providing them with professional development and career advancement through education, skills enhancement, networking and exposure opportunities. The program also increases awareness regarding the availability of talented female basketball players who want to coach.
"The program taught us how much work goes into being a college basketball coach aside from just the X's and O's. I had a great time networking with college basketball coaches from all levels of the game and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was talking with them," commented Fraser. "This experience further fueled my dreams of becoming a basketball coach."
In order to receive consideration for admission to the program, a nominee must: have exhausted her final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or graduated within the past year, be a women's basketball player who wants to pursue a career in coaching, be a credit to the sport of women's basketball both on and off the court, be nominated by her head coach who must be an active WBCA member, and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.
The "So You Want To Be A Coach" program accepted 60 applicants out of over 500 prospective attendees.
"We are so proud and happy that Bre was chosen. To be part of such an elite group and learn and grow in an environment that the WBCA presents to all coaches is an amazing opportunity," said sixth-year head coach Sacha Santimano. "We are excited for her representation as a player and student-athlete and cannot wait to hear about her experience!"
Fraser is set to graduate in May with her degree in History.
