Women’s Basketball Tripped Up at Roger Williams, 57-44
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team dropped a 57-44 decision at league-leading Roger Williams Saturday afternoon.
The Lions slide to 12-6 on the season and 6-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Hawks improve to 15-4 overall and remain unbeaten in league competition at 12-0.
Shelby Holmes (Seeley Lake, Mont.) led the guests with eight points while adding five rebounds and three assists. Ashley Rendon (La Puente, Calif.) grabbed a game-high 11 boards and chipped in with three points. Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) scored seven points off the bench.
Eastern Nazarene opened the game with a barrage of three-pointers to manufacture a 14-3 lead with 6:14 remaining in the first period.
The Lions controlled an 18-13 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
Roger Williams poured in 17 points in the second quarter while limiting Eastern Nazarene to just six. The hosts carried a 30-24 lead into the halftime intermission.
The Hawks widened the gap to 45-32 at the conclusion of the third frame after outscoring the Lions 15-8 in the third.
Both teams tallied 12 fourth-quarter points as Roger Williams picked up its 12th-consecutive conference win.
The Lions shot 24.2% from the floor and 20% from three-point range on the day. The Hawks finished with a field-goal percentage of 48.1% while being held to just 1-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Bridget Quilty paced the home side with 18 points on the afternoon.
