Women’s Basketball Stymied by Endicott in 71-38 Loss
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team suffered a 71-38 setback to Endicott Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions dip to 4-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the outcome. The Gulls improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league action with the win.
BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) scored a team-high eight points and added two rebounds. Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas.) notched six points and seven boards off the bench. Michelle Detwiler (Elkhart, Ind.) finished with seven rebounds and four points.
The first quarter was closely-contested with four lead-changes and four ties. The visitors ended the period on an 8-0 run to own a 16-10 lead after 10 minutes of action.
The home team cut the deficit to four on its first possession of the second frame as Detwiler banked in a layup, 16-12.
Endicott stretched its advantage to 14 with 2:32 remaining on a put-back layup by Sarah Hood, 30-16.
Fraser and Cooper both chalked up baskets in the final 2:15 of the second stanza to pull Eastern Nazarene to within 10 at the break, 30-20.
Eastern Nazarene boasted a field-goal percentage of 37.5% at the half while Endicott shot 40.6% through two quarters of play.
The Lions managed seven points in the third quarter while the Gulls erupted for 26 points to push their lead to 56-27 heading into the fourth.
Endicott outscored Eastern Nazarene 15-11 in the final period to capture its second conference victory.
The Lions shot 28.3% from the floor and connected on just 2-of-12 attempts from the perimeter. The Gulls finished with a field-goal percentage of 43.9% to go with 33.3% shooting from behind the arc.
Hannah Shaw paced the guests with 24 points and eight rebounds while Hannah Kiernan chipped in with 11 points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to the hardwood December 6 to host Wentworth.
