Women’s Basketball Rolls to 64-39 Victory at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team ran away with a 64-39 win at Gordon Saturday afternoon to halt a three-game skid.
The Lions improve to 11-8 on the season and 6-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots fall to 4-15 overall and 0-12 in league contests with the loss.
Jasmine Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led Eastern Nazarene with 12 points. Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) posted 10 points and five rebounds. Kristina Kaczmarek (Chatsworth, Calif.) notched eight points, five boards and a pair of blocks. Krystal Holl (Smithsburg, Md.) finished with eight points while BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) chipped in with seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) grabbed a team-high 10 boards and added seven points. Jordan Grays (Elk Grove, Calif.) registered six points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
The guests poured in 15 points in the first quarter while limiting the home side to just three points.
A layup by Cooper with 4:18 to go in the second period marked Eastern Nazarene's 18th consecutive point while stretching its lead to 27-3.
Gordon snapped a nearly 10-minute scoreless spell with 3:55 remaining in the second frame as Sophie Linnell knocked down a jumper.
The Lions netted the final four points of the second quarter to hold a commanding 33-6 advantage at halftime.
Mata paced Eastern Nazarene with 10 points in the first half while Cooper added six points and eight rebounds.
The visitors shot 34.1% from the floor in the opening half and connected on just one three-pointer on nine attempts. The Fighting Scots were restrained to 9.1% shooting from the field through 20 minutes of action.
Despite managing 12 points in the third quarter and allowing 17 by Gordon, Eastern Nazarene carried a double-digit lead into the fourth, 45-23.
The Lions edged the Fighting Scots in fourth-quarter scoring, 19-16, to lock up their 11th win of the year.
Eastern Nazarene finished with a field-goal percentage of 35.6% on the day to go with 25% shooting from the perimeter. Gordon shot 29.5% from the floor in the game and drained one trey on 10 chances.
Kristen Smith led the home team with 10 points while Jenna Olson recorded nine points.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene heads to Newport, Rhode Island to square off against Salve Regina February 2.
