Women’s Basketball Endures 59-47 Loss to Endicott
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team dropped a 59-47 decision to Endicott Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions slip to 10-7 on the year and 5-5 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the outcome. The Gulls improve to 10-7 overall and 8-2 in league play with the win.
Jaysa Cooper (Frisco, Texas) paced the home side with 12 points and six rebounds off the bench. BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) netted seven points and rejected two shots on the day. Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected a team-high eight rebounds while adding four points.
Eastern Nazarene tallied six straight points in the final five minutes of the first period, capped off with a basket by Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) with 13 seconds left to play to push the lead to 11-4.
Endicott narrowed the margin to five points as Gabriella Coppola sank a jumper just before time expired in the quarter, 11-6.
The Lions widened their advantage to five points with 5:16 remaining in the second stanza as Cooper banked in a layup, 15-10.
The Gulls stormed back with a 7-0 run to capture a 17-15 edge with 3:12 to go.
After Fraser knotted the game at 17-17, Coppola closed out the second period with a layup with seven seconds left to play.
Eastern Nazarene trailed 19-17 at the midway point of the game.
The Lions posted a field-goal percentage of 29.2% in the first half while connecting on 1-of-7 from three-point range. The Gulls shot 27.3% from the floor in the opening two quarters.
The visitors outscored the home side 20-13 in the third frame to hold a 39-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Endicott stretched its margin to 16 with 2:24 remaining on a layup by Coppola, 57-41.
Eastern Nazarene closed out the game on a 6-2 run to trim the final gap to 59-47 after Fraser tossed in a layup in the waning seconds.
The Lions shot 32.2% from the floor and 21.4% from beyond the arc in the contest. The Gulls finished with a field-goal percentage of 44.2% while coming up empty on all four of their attempts from the perimeter.
Coppola scored a game-high 14 points to lead Endicott while Hood chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds.
