Women’s Basketball Falls at the University of New England Thursday
BIDDEFORD, Maine- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team suffered an 81-50 setback at the University of New England Thursday evening.
The Lions sink to 9-5 on the year and 4-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Nor'easters, who are receiving votes in the D3Hoops.com National Poll, improves to 10-3 overall and 7-0 in league play with the win.
Jasmine Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif.) poured in a team-high 11 points and grabbed six boards. BreAnna Fraser (Henderson, Nev.) notched eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) finished with eight points and three boards.
The home team scored the first eight points of the contest before the visitors got on the board 3:38 after tip-off as Fraser drained a jumper.
The University of New England tallied the final seven points of the first quarter to lead 23-6 heading into the second frame.
Eastern Nazarene recorded 13 points in the second period while allowing 17 points in the quarter.
The Nor'easters carried a 40-19 advantage into the halftime break.
The Lions trailed 60-34 after three periods of action after the University of New England outscored Eastern Nazarene 20-15 in the third stanza.
The hosts generated 21 fourth-quarter points while allowing 16 en route to locking up their 30th consecutive regular-season victory at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Lions shot 33.9% from the floor and 25% from beyond the arc on the night. The Nor'easters finished with a field-goal percentage of 47.9% to go with 3-for-11 shooting from the perimeter.
Alicia Brown paced the University of New England with a career-high 25 points.
