Women’s Basketball Stymies Lesley in Non-Conference Matchup Tuesday
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's basketball team eased past Lesley 74-20 Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 3-1 on the year with the win while the Lynx sink to 0-4 overall.
Celina Calderon (Lompoc, Calif.), Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) and Jasmine Mata (Santa Barbara, Calif.) all scored 10 points for the hosts. Jessica Franco (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with nine points and six rebounds. Elia Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) pulled down a team-high seven boards and added four points.
Eastern Nazarene established a 14-2 advantage after the opening period.
The Lions widened the gap to 20 points midway through the second frame on a triple by Franco. The hosts carried a 37-9 lead into the halftime intermission.
Eastern Nazarene boasted a field-goal percentage of 39% after two quarters of play while holding Lesley to just one made bucket.
Franco paced the Lions' balanced offense with eight points while Calderon tallied seven points.
Eastern Nazarene locked up a victory in the home-opener after owning a commanding lead throughout the second half.
The home side sported a 59-13 lead heading into the fourth stanza and outscored the guests 15-7 in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
The Lions connected on 40% of their field-goal attempts on the night, including 31.8% of their three-point tries. The Lynx were limited to just 4-of-35 shooting from the floor and sank 12-of-18 attempts from the free throw stripe.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene travels to the Big Apple November 28-29 to compete in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College. The Lions will take on the host Cougars in the first round.
