Ruby Leon Earns All-CCC Women’s Basketball Honorable Mention
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Junior Ruby Leon (Fairfield, Calif.) of the Eastern Nazarene women's basketball team has been named All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honorable mention, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Leon paced the Lions and ranked 15th in the conference with 11.9 points per game this season.
The junior guard also ranked 13th in the league with 2.4 assists per contest.
Leon also averaged 3.1 boards per game and 1.4 steals per contest on the year. She shot 34.7% from the floor and 22.9% from outside the three-point line on the season. Leon was also one of Eastern Nazarene's most consistent free throw shooters, sinking 73.3% of her attempts from the charity stripe.
Leon saw action in all 25 games this season and started 13 contests for the Lions.
Leon poured in double-figure points on 15 occasions during the 2013-14 campaign, including 20 or more points in four games. She scored a season-high 24 points against Salve Regina and netted 22 points in the Lions' next contest, a 65-53 victory over Gordon.
Eastern Nazarene closed out the season riding a three-game winning-streak with victories over Western New England, Nichols and Gordon. The Lions prevailed in four of their final five games of the year.
Eastern Nazarene posted a 9-16 overall record with a 5-13 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The Lions nearly reached the Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs for the third consecutive season in 2013-14. Eastern Nazarene finished tied for eighth-place in the league standings with Wentworth. The Leopards owned the tiebreaker over the Lions to claim the eighth and final playoff spot.
