Women’s Basketball Falters at Roger Williams Tuesday
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene women's basketball team was dealt a 91-37 loss on the road at Roger Williams Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Lions progress to 5-14 on the season and 1-11 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Hawks improve to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the league with their third-consecutive win.
Christina Saint-Pierre (Lantana, Fla.) poured in a team-high nine points on the night while grabbing four boards. Lucy Santos (Vallejo, Calif.) finished the game with eight points and seven rebounds. Jamie Emerson (Attleboro, Mass.) scored six points while Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) and Katy Teare (Frazier Park, Calif.) each notched five boards.
The Hawks scored the first six points of the game and eight of the opening 10 points to hold an 8-2 advantage after 4:33 of action.
The hosts stretched their lead to 14 with 12:45 left to play in the half as Kaitlyn Bovee drained a pair of free throws, 20-6.
The Lions halted an 11-0 run as Saint-Pierre and Abbie Tonello (Bourne, Mass.) each converted two free throws to cut the deficit to 22-10.
Roger Williams used a 10-3 stretch to widen the gap to 19 points with 8:13 to go in the period, capped off by a jumper by Katie Lowerre, 32-13.
Lowerre sank a jumper with 1:23 left to play as the Hawks utilized a 9-1 clip to extend their lead to 31, 51-20.
Santos banked in a lay-up with less than a minute remaining in the half to narrow the margin to 51-22 at halftime.
Saint-Pierre paced Eastern Nazarene with nine first-half points and three rebounds. Jasmine Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered four points, three boards and two assists in the opening stanza.
The visitors connected on 20% of their field-goal attempts in the first frame while coming up short on all three efforts from beyond the arc. Roger Williams shot 54.3% from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including 3-for-8 shooting from three-point range.
The Hawks sustained a commanding double-figure lead throughout the second half to pick up their 16th win of the year.
Eastern Nazarene was restricted to just 17.6% shooting on the evening while hitting one three-pointer on eight attempts. Roger Williams finished the contest with a field-goal percentage of 48.5% to go with 25% shooting from outside the three-point arc.
