Softball Captures Two Victories at Curry
MILTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team swept Curry in a non-league doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, prevailing 5-2 and 9-6.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 5, Curry 2
Records: Lions (6-13) | Colonels (9-8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eastern Nazarene chalked up a run in the top of the first inning to snag a 1-0 edge. Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, Ariz.) crossed the dish on an RBI groundout by Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.).
- The Lions added a run in the third to double their advantage to 2-0. Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) scampered home from third base on an RBI groundout by Cailey McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.).
- Curry responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to knot the contest at 2-2.
- Eastern Nazarene scored once in the top of the fourth inning to regain a one-run lead, 3-2, as Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) dashed home from third on a wild pitch.
- The visitors tacked on two runs in the sixth to stretch the gap to 5-2. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) laced a single down the left field line to drive in Abby Stansbury (Warren, Ore.). Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.) roped a single to centerfield to knock in Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eastern Nazarene generated five runs in the top of the first frame to establish an early 5-0 advantage. Cailey McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.) scorched a one-out double to drive in Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, Ariz.) and Leah Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.). Abby Stansbury (Warren, Ore.) followed with a base knock to plate Cailey McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.). Lizzie DeRusha (Nashua, N.H.) collected her first collegiate hit and RBI with a single to score Abby Stansbury (Warren, Ore.). Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) crossed the dish on an infield hit off the bat of Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.).
- Curry tallied three runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- The hosts picked up a run in the fourth to pull to within one, 5-4.
- The Lions produced one run in the top of the fifth inning to grab a 6-4 lead.
- Eastern Nazarene plated three runs in the sixth to widen the margin to 9-4.
- The Colonels answered with two runs in the home half of the frame to narrow the gap to 9-6.

- Lizzie DeRusha (Nashua, N.H.) racked up three hits, three RBIs, and one run scored.
- Cayley McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.) posted three base knocks, two RBIs, one run scored, and a stolen base.
- Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) notched two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored.
- Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) finished with two hits and one RBI.
- Abby Stansbury (Warren, Ore.) chipped in with one base hit, one RBI, and a pair of runs scored.
- Cayley McCurdy (Smithfield, R.I.) tossed 3.2 innings and registered two strikeouts in her seventh start of the season. Faith Bonar (Omaha, Neb.) worked 3.1 innings of relief and fanned one batter.
