Softball Earns Series Split with John Jay
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team rebounded from a 6-2 loss in game one to claim game two 9-5 to salvage a doubleheader split against John Jay Thursday afternoon at Mitchell/McCoy Field.
GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 2, John Jay 6
Records: Lions (12-17) | Bloodhounds (17-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- John Jay chalked up two runs in the top of the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
- Eastern Nazarene tallied a run in the bottom of the first to trim the deficit to 2-1. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) crossed the dish on a sacrifice fly by Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.).
- The Bloodhounds generated four runs in the fourth to widen the gap to 6-1.
- The Lions picked up a run in the home half of the sixth to cut the margin to 6-2. Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) raked a single to drive in Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) from second base.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) posted two hits and one run scored.
- Alex Schwenger (Danville, Calif.) notched a pair of base knocks while Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) registered one hit and one RBI.
- Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) chipped in with one base hit and one run scored.
- In the pitcher's circle, Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) spun her 11th complete game of the season and finished with three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eastern Nazarene tallied a run in the bottom of the first inning to snag a 1-0 edge as Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) scored her team-leading 36th run of the year.
- The Lions tacked on a pair of runs in the second to stretch their advantage to 3-0. Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) laced a double to left field to knock in Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) before Daitriana Gongora (Bridgeport, Conn.) scurried home on a wild pitch.
- The home side produced five runs in the third to widen the margin to 8-0.
- Eastern Nazarene added one run in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 9-0. Ashley Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.).
- John Jay got on the board in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to pull to within five, 9-3.
- The Bloodhounds manufactured two runs in the sixth innings to narrow the gap to 9-5.
