Softball Halves Two-Game Series with Albertus Magnus Monday

REVERE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team captured a 5-2 win before dropping a 9-7 decision to Albertus Magnus Monday afternoon.

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Eastern Nazarene 5, Albertus Magnus 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Eastern Nazarene chalked up a run in the bottom of the first inning to establish a 1-0 lead. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) laced a single to centerfield to knock in Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) from second base.
• The Lions added two runs in the third to widen the gap to 3-0. Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) launched her second home run of the season, a two-run blast to score Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.).
• Eastern Nazarene tacked on a runs in the fifth to stretch its advantage to 4-0 as Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) clobbered her team-leading fifth homer of the year.
• Albertus plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to trim the deficit to 4-2.
• The Lions responded with a run in the home half of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-2. Yaya Bowden (Danbury, Conn.) crushed her first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Eastern Nazarene tallied three runs in the bottom of the first inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) belted a three-run home run to drive in Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) and Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.).
• Albertus Magnus produced a run in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-1.
• The Lions manufactured four runs in the fifth to push their advantage to 7-1. Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) blasted a grand slam for her second home run of the day and sixth of the spring to score Danielle Maliszewski (Torrington, Conn.), Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.), and Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.).
• The Falcons generated six runs in the sixth to level the contest at 7-7.
• Albertus Magnus scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to seize its first lead of the day, 9-7.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Darcy Castro (Garden Grove, Calif.) racked up three hits, including her 100th career base knock. She also recorded three RBIs and one run scored.
• Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) posted two hits, four RBIs, and two runs scored.
• Taylor Brandt (Napa, Calif.) finished with two base knocks and one run scored.
• Caoimhe Wernsing (Brockton, Mass.) contributed with a pair of runs scored and one hit.
• Morgan Bruner (Litchfield, N.H.) tossed five innings and registered one strikeout in her seventh start of the spring. Chelsea De Martini (Budd Lake, N.J.) worked 1.1 innings of relief and fanned two batters before Alexys Giddings (Kuna, Idaho) pitched two-thirds of an inning and finished with one strikeout.
