Softball Sweeps NECC Weekly Awards
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Freshman Bailey Olaveson (Lakeside, Calif.) of the Eastern Nazarene College softball team has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player and Rookie of the Week while senior Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) claimed her second-straight NECC Pitcher of the Week accolade, announced the league office Monday.
Olaveson hit .350 on the week to go with a .650 slugging percentage. She landed seven hits, drove in six RBIs, and scored six runs on the week. In the Lions' win over Concordia-Moorhead, Olaveson racked up three RBIs and launched her first collegiate home run. She collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, as Eastern Nazarene defeated Loras.
Schaffer made four starts in the pitcher's circle and two relief appearances on the week, finishing with a 2-2 record and two saves. She threw 27.2 innings, including three complete games, and racked up 43 strikeouts. In the Lions' victory over Concordia-Moorhead, Schaffer recorded an NCAA Division III single-game high 20 strikeouts.
This season, Olaveson ranks second in the conference with 13 hits and 10 runs scored while also ranking third in the league with nine RBIs. She paces the squad with a pair of home runs and four doubles
Schaffer paces NCAA Division III with 82 strikeouts this spring. She boasts a 5-3 record with seven complete games and two saves to her credit.
The Lions posted a 4-2 record on the week and sports a 7-5 overall record. Eastern Nazarene returns to the diamond March 21 as it visits Simmons.
