Softball's Clements, Schaffer Tabbed to NFCA All-New England Second Team
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Senior Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) and junior Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) of the Eastern Nazarene College softball team have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England second team.
Schaffer repeats as an NFCA All-New England second team honoree while Clements picks up her first career all-region nod.
The duo played vital roles in the Lions' historic 2019 campaign which yielded the program's first-ever New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship and NCAA Tournament berth.
Clements was named the NECC Player of the Year this spring after claiming Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year honors last season. Schaffer collected NECC Pitcher of the Year accolades this year for her second conference Pitcher of the Year award.
An All-NECC first team pick, Clements led the squad with a .451 batting average, .811 slugging percentage, and .514 on-base percentage this season. She drove in a team-high 43 RBIs while notching 55 base hits, including a conference-best 11 homers. Clements added 23 runs scored and was one of five players in appear in all 44 contests this spring. Behind the dish, Clements posted an unblemished fielding percentage of 1.000.
An All-NECC first team selection, Schaffer racked up a program-record 266 strikeouts to rank third nationally in 2019. She paced NCAA Division III with 14 shutouts and ranked second with 25 victories in the pitcher's circle. Schaffer tossed 198.2 innings and finished with a 1.27 earned-run average to go with a 25-7 record. The junior went the distance in all 30 starts this season while also making two relief appearances.
Clements and Schaffer powered Eastern Nazarene to a 29-15 record in 2019, setting a new single-season program record for wins. The Lions finished their first season in the NECC with a 14-2 mark to grab the top seed in the NECC Tournament.
Eastern Nazarene was selected to its first-ever NCAA Tournament this spring and posted the program's first NCAA Tournament win along the way. Clements and Schaffer were both named to the NCAA Tournament Cambridge Regional all-tournament team.
