CLERMONT, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team posted a pair of shutout wins Wednesday at the PFX Spring Games, a 2-0 victory over Defiance and an 11-0 five-inning win over Penn State-New Kensington.
The Lions improve to 7-3 on the season with the two victories. The Yellow Jackets dip to 3-4 on the year while the Nittany Lions slide to 0-4 overall with the results.
Rebecca Ashman (Havre de Grace, Md.) paced the squad with four hits, three runs scored, three RBIs, and a stolen base. Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) notched four RBIs, two base knocks, and one run scored on the day. Kiley Ozaki (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) finished with two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Dominique Santos (Lancaster, Calif.) and Tylan Onorato (Wiscassett, Maine) both registered a pair of runs scored, one hit, and one RBI while Jenessa Huerta (El Monte, Calif.) picked up one base knock, two RBIs, and one run.
In the opening tilt, Eastern Nazarene edged Defiance 2-0.
The Lions tallied a run in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 1-0 edge. Ashman roped a two-out single to left field to drive in Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) from third.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a run in the fourth. Onorato tagged up and scampered home from third base as Huerta lifted a sacrifice fly to right.
Schaffer tossed a seven-inning complete game and finished with 13 strikeouts.
In the second game of the afternoon, Eastern Nazarene cruised to an 11-0 victory over Penn State-New Kensington in five innings.
The Lions established an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ashman crossed the dish on a groundout by Santos.
Eastern Nazarene erupted for five runs in the third to widen the gap to 6-0. Ashman crushed her first homer of the season over the left field fence to plate Huerta. Three batters later, Clements launched her team-leading third home run of the spring to drive in Ozaki and Santos.
The Lions repeated the five-run frame in the fourth inning to stretch the gap to 11-0. Ashman, Santos, Ozaki, Onorato, and Viviana Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) all scored for Eastern Nazarene while Ozaki, Clements, Onorato, and Huerta all collected RBIs.
Santos pitched her second complete game of the year and fanned two.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene wraps up its spring break trip against Adrian and Penn State-Berks.
