CLERMONT, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team collected a 3-0 victory over Saint Mary's (Minn.) before dropping a 4-0 decision to Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon at the PFX Spring Games.
The Lions move to 3-1 on the season with the results. The Cardinals slip to 4-5 overall while the Mules improve to 1-1 on the year.
Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) posted a pair of hits, one RBI, and one run scored on the day. Rebecca Ashman (Havre de Grace, Md.) tallied two base knocks, one run scored, and a stolen base. Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) added one hit, one run, and one RBI while Kiley Ozaki (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) chipped in with one base hit and one RBI.
In the first game of the day, Eastern Nazarene shut out Saint Mary's (Minn.) 3-0.
The Lions snagged a 1-0 edge with a run in the top of the first inning. Ashman motored home from third base as Ozaki lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.
Eastern Nazarene manufactured a pair of scores in the third to widen the gap to 3-0. Clements clobbered a leadoff home run for her 24th career homer and second of the season. Schaffer followed with a one-out solo shot to collect her first home run of the spring.
Schaffer spun a complete-game shutout in her second start of the season and racked up 14 strikeouts.
In the second contest of the afternoon, the Lions suffered their first loss of the season with a 4-0 setback against Muhlenberg.
The Mules seized a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Sarah Karmazyn tagged up from third and crossed the dish on a sacrifice fly by Kristy Selby. Cora Bridgers and Genna Cicchetti each picked up RBI singles to score Kristin Oberg and Allyson Sweeney.
Muhlenberg tacked on a run in the third to expand its advantage to 4-0 as Kristina Qualben blasted a solo homer.
Meghan Stanley (Bedford, Mass.) threw six innings in her first pitching appearance of the spring.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will face Monmouth (Ill.) and Bates March 3 in the Sunshine State.
