BEVERLY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team split a league twinbill at Endicott Saturday afternoon, prevailing 5-2 before falling 6-4.
The Lions move to 18-8 on the season and 9-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the results. The Gulls progress to 18-4 overall and 6-2 in conference action.
Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas.) paced the team with four RBIs, two hits, and one run scored. Kayleen Garrick (Sparks, Nev.) notched three RBIs, two base knocks, and one run. Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Dominique Santos (Lancaster, Calif.) chipped in with two hits and scored three runs. Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) posted three hits while Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) added two hits.
In the first game of the day, the visitors captured a 5-2 victory.
Eastern Nazarene scored twice in the top of the third to grab a 2-0 edge. Garrick launched her first home run of the season, a two-run shot to drive in Santos.
The Lions chalked up three runs in the fourth to widen the margin to 5-0. Garrick laced a single to right to plate Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) before Weidler roped a double to the gap in left-center to score Jenessa Huerta (El Monte, Calif.) and Santos.
Endicott got on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 5-2. Kayla Sheldon poked an RBI single to right to drive in Hayley Arduini before Lindsee Allienello scored as Gina DeMilt reached on an error.
Schaffer threw a complete game and struck out eight batters to earn her 10th victory of the spring.
In game two, the Gulls rallied to eke out a 6-4 win.
The home team seize a 1-0 edge with a run in the third inning. DeMilt rolled a single up the middle to drive in Sheldon from second base.
Eastern Nazarene leveled the contest at 1-1 with run in the top of the fourth. Clements raked a single to right to plate Rebecca Hayner (Halfmoon, N.Y.) from second.
The Lions tallied three runs in the fifth frame to build up a 4-1 advantage. Clements clobbered her team-leading fifth homer of the season to knock in Santos and Huerta.
Endicott erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to jump ahead 6-4. Adriana Favreau doubled to score Zoe Rose before Arduini belted a three-run homer down the left field line. Olivia Odermatt motored home from third on a sacrifice fly by Sheldon.
Weidler threw five innings and posted a pair of strikeouts and Heidi Gomez worked one inning of relief.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Brandeis April 17 for a non-conference series.
