DUDLEY, Mass.- Off to the best start in program history, the Eastern Nazarene College softball team remained unbeaten in league play with a pair of victories at Nichols Sunday afternoon, prevailing 1-0 and 4-1.
The Lions improve to 13-5 on the season and 6-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the wins. The Bison fall to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play with the decisions.
Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) racked up four base hits and four RBIs on the day. Dominque Santos (Lancaster, Calif.) posted four hits and two runs. Kayleen Garrick (Sparks, Nev.) crossed the dish twice while Haley Viscovich (Modesto, Calif.) chipped in with one hit and one RBI and Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) added one base knock and one run scored.
The visitors squeezed out a narrow 1-0 victory in the opening game.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Clements scorched a single up the middle to drive in Santos from third base.
Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) struck out a career-high 15 batters as she spun her sixth complete game of the season.
The Lions logged a 4-1 win in game two to lock up their sixth-straight conference victory.
Eastern Nazarene plated one run in the first to grab a quick 1-0 edge. After back-to-back walks to Garrick and Weidler, Clements roped a single to left to knock in Garrick from second.
Nichols responded with a run in the second inning to level the contest at 1-1. Taylor McIntosh rolled a base hit up the middle to score Cara Mayhew.
The guests manufactured three runs in the fifth to jump ahead 4-1. With the bases loaded, Clements smacked a two-run double to drive in Santos and Garrick. Viscovich absorbed a hit-by-pitch with the bases full to plate Weidler.
Weidler tossed her second complete game of the spring and fanned five batters.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene is slated to host Lasell April 10 in the first home games of the spring.
