CLERMONT, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to Nebraska Wesleyan and rebounded with a 6-3 win over Mitchell Tuesday at the PFX Spring Games.
The Lions progress to 5-3 on the spring with the results. The Prairie Wolves improve to 6-5 overall while the Mariners sink to 0-4 on the year.
Dominique Santos (Lancaster, Calif.) collected three hits, three runs scored, and a pair of RBIs on the day. Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) finished with three base knocks and three RBIs. Emily Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) chipped in with three hits, two runs scored, one RBI, and a stolen base.
In the team's first contest of the day, Nebraska Wesleyan edged Eastern Nazarene 1-0.
The Prairie Wolves tallied the game's lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rachel Mundt scored as Morgan Shipley reached base on an error.
Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) tossed her second complete game of the season and finished with five strikeouts.
In their final game of the afternoon, the Lions landed 10 hits to post a 6-3 win over Mitchell.
The Mariners opened up a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Danielle Autieri doubled to left to drive in Stephanie Adams from first base. Italia Krick sent a single back up the middle to score Autieri.
Eastern Nazarene responded with two runs in the home half of the frame to knot the contest at 2-2. Emily Gomez roped a double to centerfield to drive in Santos from second before Heidi Gomez followed with a double to right to plate Emily Gomez.
The Lions produced three runs in the third to claim a 5-2 advantage. Santos crushed her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot with two outs to knock in Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) from first base. Heidi Gomez picked up her second RBI of the game with a double to drive in Emily Gomez.
Mitchell plated a run in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 5-3. Adams laced a doubled to left to score Samantha DelConte.
Eastern Nazarene regained a three-run lead with a run in the bottom of the inning, 6-3. Heidi Gomez collected her third RBI of the contest with a one-out single to center to plate Santos.
Heidi Gomez spun a complete game and fanned seven batters to improve to 3-0 in the pitcher's circle.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene continues play in the PFX Spring Games March 7 against Monmouth (Ill.) and Bridgewater State.
