BEVERLY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team dropped a pair of decisions at Endicott Monday to cap off the season, falling 4-0 and 9-5.
The Lions finish the year at 19-18 and 5-13 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the setbacks. The Gulls improve to 20-14 overall and 11-7 in league action with the wins.
Lauren Weidler (Lansdale, Pa.) collected three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored on the day. Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) finished with three RBIs, two base knocks, and one run scored in the doubleheader. Kayleen Garrick (Sparks, Nev.) chipped in with three hits and a run while Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) registered two hits.
In the opener, Endicott plated four runs in the top of the fourth to claim a 4-0 victory.
In the fourth, KK Palmerino scored the first run of the game as Kayla Sheldon reached on a bunt-single. Lindsee Allienello followed with a double to left to drive in Sheldon before crossing the dish on a single to center field by Julia McNeill. Emily Sharpe knocked in McNeill from third base with a single to left.
Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) tossed 3.2 innings and struck out two batters. Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) spun 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.
In game two, Eastern Nazarene established a three-run advantage in the third inning, 3-0. Clements smacked her team-leading sixth home run of the spring to drive in Viviana Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) and Weidler.
Endicott tallied nine runs in the top of the fourth to capture a 9-3 lead. McNeill launched two homers in the inning to pick up three RBIs. Margaret Martzolf and Palmerino both notched two RBIs in the frame while Jamie Hopgood and Allienello added one each.
The Lions sliced the deficit to 9-5 with a pair of runs in the home half of the fourth frame. Weidler belted her fourth home run of the year with two outs, a two-run blast that drove in Garrick.
Schaffer pitched 3.1 innings and Heidi Gomez worked 3.2 innings of relief for Eastern Nazarene.
