MILTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College softball team absorbed a 5-1 setback and a 3-2 loss at Curry Wednesday afternoon in a midweek conference doubleheader.
The Lions fall to 12-11 on the season and 3-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the results. The Colonels improve to 12-14 overall and 7-5 in league action with the wins.
Elisabeth Schaffer (Benton, Pa.) notched two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI on the day. Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) and Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, N.Y.) both registered a pair of base knocks and drove in one RBI. Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) chipped in with two hits while Viviana Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) landed one hit and scored one run.
In game one, the home team snapped a three-game skid with a 5-1 victory.
Curry snagged a 2-0 advantage with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Molly Horn crossed the dish on an infield-single by Mikayla Korona. Michaela Colleran singled to right field to drive in Carolyn Lynch.
The Colonels added a run in the fourth to push their lead to 3-0. Korona sent a two-out single to center to plate Horn from third base.
The hosts scored twice in the sixth to widen the gap to 5-0. Mikayla Lambert knocked in Lynch and Korona with a base hit to left.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the top of the seventh, cutting the deficit to 5-1. With runners on the corners, Heidi Gomez laced a single to right field to drive in Schaffer from third to pick up her second RBI of the year.
Schaffer spun her seventh complete game of the spring and finished with eight strikeouts.
In the series finale, the Colonels collected a walk-off win as they prevailed 3-2.
Curry pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to claim an early 2-0 lead. Rachel Byrd slapped a two-out double to right to plate Lambert and Korona.
Eastern Nazarene trimmed the margin to 2-1 with a score in the top of the second inning. Schaffer blasted her team-leading third home run of the season to lead off the frame, a solo homer to left field.
The Lions knotted the game at 2-2 with a run in the sixth. Coix scampered home from third on an infield-hit off the bat of Bow.
The home side tallied the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Marissa Bruno rounded third base and scored from second on a single to right by Lambert.
Heidi Gomez pitched a complete game in her 10th start of the year and struck out a pair in 6.1 innings.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene steps out of conference to travel to Lasell April 13.
