FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene softball team fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering 10-0 and to Edgewood 8-0 in five innings to open the 2014 season at the Gene Cusic Classic.
The Lions drop to 0-2 on the year while the Engineers improve to 3-2 and the Eagles rise to 4-4 with the win.
In the first game of the season, Eastern Nazarene mustered just one hit against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
In the team's second contest of the day, the Lions registered a pair of base knocks as Sterling Marino (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Abigail Moore (Sheridan, Calif.) each landed hits against Edgewood.
The Eagles grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Edgewood chalked up three runs in the fourth to stretch its advantage to 5-0. The Eagles sealed the 8-0 victory with three scores in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Olivia Tovar (Coarsegold, Calif.) tossed 4.1 innings in her first collegiate pitching appearance for the Lions and notched one strikeout.
Eastern Nazarene will look to capture its first win of the 2014 campaign as it continues play at the Gene Cusic Classic March 10 with clashes against Wartburg and Rockford.
