Softball’s Losano, Sorensen Claim All-CCC Honorable Mention
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Junior Sam Losano and sophomore Kori Sorensen of the Eastern Nazarene softball team both earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honorable mention, as announced by the league office Friday morning.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Junior Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.) and sophomore Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) of the Eastern Nazarene softball team both earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honorable mention, as announced by the league office Friday morning.
Losano posted a team-best .354 batting average with 35 base knocks. She also led the Lions with an on-base percentage of .429 this spring. The junior infielder crossed the plate 10 times and drove in six RBIs. Defensively, she recorded 41 putouts and 46 assists playing primarily at third base. Losano earned her first Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week honor after leading Eastern Nazarene to a doubleheader sweep of Regis in the seasons-opener.
Sorensen pitched in 18 games and made 16 starts inside the circle and finished the regular season owning an 8-9 record to go with a 2.12 ERA. She worked a total of 112.1 innings and struck out 122 batters. Sorensen tossed 15 complete games and blanked opponents seven times, including a no-hitter at Wheelock April 1.
Sorensen also contributed offensively, collecting 18 hits and plating 11 RBIs while pacing the squad with seven sacrifice hits. In Eastern Nazarene's 15-4 victory at Wentworth April 22, Sorensen belted her first collegiate home run as she deposited a grand slam over the fence in left.
Sorensen was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete game shutout with five strikeouts in the Lions' season-opening win over Regis.
Eastern Nazarene capped off the regular season owning a 10-23 overall record. The Lions grabbed the No. 7 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 7-11 league mark. Eastern Nazarene will battle sixth-seeded Curry in the CCC Play-In Game April 27.
