Softball Handed Two Losses at Western New England
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene softball team absorbed losses of 2-1 and 7-1 at Western New England Monday afternoon.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene softball team absorbed losses of 2-1 and 7-1 at Western New England Monday afternoon. The Lions slide to 6-23 overall and 3-11 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Golden Bears improve to 19-12 on the season and 10-2 in league action.
Olivia Tovar (Coarsegold, Calif.) recorded three hits on the day to lead the team. Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.) landed two base knocks and drove in a run while Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) picked up a pair of hits. Britny Costa (New Bedford, Mass.) registered a hit, one RBI and scored one run.
The visitors seized a 1-0 edge in the top of the second inning of game one. Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) crossed the plate as Costa rolled a groundball to the right side of the infield.
Western New England knotted the score at 1-1 in the third as Maria Francese scampered home.
The Golden Bears plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Samantha Mulhern laced an RBI double to drive in Avery Clark from first.
Sorensen logged a complete game in the pitcher's circle for the Lions. The sophomore registered five strikeouts in six innings of work.
The hosts opened the scoring in the second game with a two-run second inning. Jocelyn Agnelli singled up the middle to plate Jeana Longo and Leah Torre.
Western New England tacked on four runs in the third to expand the margin to 6-0. Katie Eckert drove in three runs with a double to left and Alexis Bukowski followed with an RBI double.
The Golden Bears added a run to take a 7-0 advantage. Eckert poked a single into centerfield and Emily Mastropaolo trotted home.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the seventh inning as Costa scored on a groundout by Losano.
Costa fanned three batters and walked three in six innings in the pitcher's circle.
The Lions will look to snap a nine-game skid as they travel to face Wentworth April 19.
