Softball Shuts Out Wheelock; Sorensen Tosses No-Hitter

QUINCY, Mass.- Behind a no-hitter by Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.), the Eastern Nazarene softball team posted a 9-0 win at Wheelock Monday afternoon in five innings. The Lions improved to 5-14 on the season while the Wildcats slip to 0-3 overall.
Sorensen hurled five innings and surrendered no hits and just one walk. The sophomore fanned 12 of the 17 batters that she faced.
Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.) led the way with two base hits, and two runs scored. Carissa Cicolini (Methuen, Mass.) contributed with a team-best three RBIs in the contest. Britny Costa (New Bedford, Mass.), Sterling Marino (North Kingstown, R.I.), Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.), Abigail Moore (Sheridan, Calif.), Olivia Tovar (Coarsegold, Calif.) and Sorensen all registered one RBI on the day.
Eastern Nazarene got on the board in the top of the first, scoring one run to grab a 1-0 edge. Costa singled to right center to drive in Losano from third.
The Lions tacked on four runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Sorensen singled to center to score Marino from second. Clinkscale followed with an RBI double to right-center to plate Sorensen from third. Moore laced a double to left to drive in Clinkscale. Moore came around to score on a single through the left side of the infield by Tovar with two outs.
The visitors added a run in the fourth as Marino blasted her second home run of the season, a solo shot to left.
Eastern Nazarene capped off the scoring with a three-run homer by Cicolini in the fifth.
Game two of the non-conference doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather.
Up next, the Lions will host the University of New England April 3.
