Softball Clipped at Curry in CCC Doubleheader
MILTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene softball team dropped a pair of league games Saturday on the road at Curry.

MILTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene softball team dropped a pair of league games Saturday on the road at Curry. The Lions were dealt a 6-0 loss and a 9-1 five-inning loss to slip to 4-14 overall and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Colonels elevate to 8-6 on the season and 2-2 in league play.
Kori Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) led the visitors with a pair of base knocks while driving in the Lions' lone RBI on the day. Jamie Block (Pembroke, Mass.), Carissa Cicolini (Methuen, Mass.) and Abigail Moore (Sheridan, Calif.) all registered one hit in the doubleheader.
In game one, Curry tallied three runs in the third to claim a 3-0 lead. Megan Flaherty plated Abby Macomber from second with a double to left for the home team's first run of the contest. Ariel LaRosa landed a one-out single in left field to drive in Heather Carrier and Flaherty.
The Colonels tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth to widen the gap to 6-0. Taryn Vigeant scored on a bases-loaded groundout by Amy Nolan. Kaitlyn Madeiros followed with a two-run single to center to score Flaherty and Carrier.
Sorensen pitched a complete game in the opening tilt and recorded seven strikeouts while allowing just three earned runs and six hits.
In the second game of the afternoon, Curry erupted for six runs in the bottom of the first inning on seven hits. Mikaela Carney, Paige Smigiel, Vigeant, Carrier and Flaherty all recorded RBIs in the first frame for the hosts.
The Colonels added three runs in the second to increase their advantage to 9-0. LaRosa launched a solo homer to left and Carrier laced a two-run single to right for Curry.
Eastern Nazarene tallied its first run of the day in the top of the third inning. Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.) reached first base after getting hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Losano advanced to second a groundout by Cicolini before rounding third and crossing the plate on a one-out single by Sorensen.
Britny Costa (New Bedford, Mass.) absorbed the loss to move to 1-2 on the spring in the pitcher's circle as she tossed four innings.
The Lions will look to halt a four-game skid as they visit Wheelock April 1 for a non-conference twinbill.
