Men’s Cross Country Claims Second at NECC Championships; Four Runners Earn All-NECC Honors
WESTFIELD, Mass.- Led by sophomore Robert Gorman (Ellington, Conn.), the Eastern Nazarene College men's cross country team captured a second-place finish at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships Saturday at Stanley Park.
Gorman earned All-NECC first team accolades after claiming second place at the meet. Kyandre Martinez (Brockton, Mass.), Ryan Polsgrove (Quincy, Mass.), and Kevin Rodrigues (Dorchester, Mass.) all received All-NECC second team laurels at the meet. Polsgrove was also named to the NECC Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
Gorman traversed the 8,000-meter course in 29:18.7 to finish second overall and garner All-NECC honors for the second-consecutive year.
Polsgrove crossed the finish line in eighth place with a mark of 31:11.4. Rodrigues posted a time of 31:58.1 for 11th place while Martinez seized 13th place with a time of 32:34.9.
Joseph Merrigan (Quincy, Mass.) clocked in at 34:55.6 to finish just outside the top half of the field.
Dean captured the team title for the second-straight year while Elms' Ricky Elmer claimed top individual honors.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene is slated to race at the NCAA New England Regional Championships November 16 at Bowdoin College.
