Men’s Volleyball Bests Newbury 3-0, Advances to NECC Tournament Semifinals
QUINCY, Mass.- The fourth-seeded Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team claimed a 3-0 victory over No. 5 seed Newbury Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center to advance to the NECC Tournament semifinals for the second-straight season.
The Lions improve to 15-15 on the year with the win and will travel to top-seeded, nationally-ranked Elms in the NECC Tournament semifinals Thursday, April 11. The Nighthawks finish the season with a 7-19 overall record with the loss.
Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) posted a match-high 13 kills to go with a pair of service aces on the night. Arthur Kossoski (Malden, Mass.) notched 11 kills and five digs while James Hoopes (Lenexa, Kan.) chipped in with nine kills. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) tallied 34 assists and eight digs. Brock Pease (Marshfield, Mass.) collected a team-high nine digs in the match.
The home side rolled to a 25-10 win in the opening set to capture a 1-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene rallied from an 18-13 deficit to edge Newbury 25-23 in the second frame to widen the margin to 2-0.
The Lions locked up the program's first-ever postseason victory with a 25-18 decision in the third.
Pedro Juan De Jesus paced Newbury with six kills and 11 digs while Jeremias Soto added 13 assists and seven digs.
