QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team endured a 3-0 loss to Nichols before sweeping Northern Vermont-Johnson 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions progress to 12-13 on the year and 6-5 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the results. The Bison improve to 13-8 overall and 7-3 in league action with two wins. The Badgers slide to 1-16 on the season with a pair of losses.
Brock Pease (Marshfield, Mass.) collected a team-best 12 kills on the afternoon while adding eight digs and three aces. Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) notched eight kills, three aces, and six digs. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) posted 39 assists to go with four kills. Defensively, Sunil Lepcha (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied 14 digs and Quinn Smith (Galway, N.Y.) added 10 digs.
In the opening tilt, Eastern Nazarene suffered a 3-0 setback to Nichols.
The Bison captured the first set 25-19 after scoring the final six points of the frame.
Nichols doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-13 decision in the second.
The Bison edged the hosts 25-23 in the third set to clinch their third-consecutive win.
Eastern Nazarene capped off the day with a 3-0 victory over Northern Vermont-Johnson in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead with a 25-9 decision in the opening frame.
The home team stretched the margin to 2-0 after claiming the second set 25-14.
Eastern Nazarene prevailed 25-12 in the third to earn its 11th sweep of the season.
In the middle match of the afternoon, Nichols rolled to a 3-0 win over Northern Vermont-Johnson to collect its fourth victory in a row.
Lance Law paced Nichols with 23 kills and 10 digs on the day. Ray Wang chipped in with 14 kills and five service aces while Luis Castro dished out 30 assists and Kevin Keohane added 23 assists.
Randy Willette led Northern Vermont-Johnson with seven kills while Nicholas Audet registered 16 assists.
