Men’s Volleyball Triumphs in Five Sets at Newbury
BROOKLINE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team edged Newbury 3-2 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Lions improve to 9-12 on the season and 4-4 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the win. The Nighthawks fall to 6-13 overall and 5-4 in league action with the result.
Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) racked up a season-high 19 kills to lead the squad. James Hoopes (Lenexa, Kan.) posted nine kills and a pair of blocks. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) registered 33 assists, 11 digs, and three total blocks. Sunil Lepcha (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with a team-best 15 digs while Arthur Kossoski (Malden, Mass.) chipped in with 13 digs and four kills.
The visitors captured a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 victory in the first set.
The hosts leveled the match at 1-1 after claiming the second frame 25-23.
Newbury jumped ahead 2-1 with a 25-21 decision in the third set.
Eastern Nazarene battled back to knot the match at 2-2 with a 25-17 win in the fourth.
In the deciding fifth frame, the Lions prevailed 15-6 to snap a two-match skid.
Rory Dobbins paced the Nighthawks with 20 kills and 11 digs while Pedro Juan De Jesus notched 11 kills and 11 digs on the day.
