Men’s Volleyball Opens NECC Slate with 3-0 Loss at Elms
CHICOPEE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at Elms Tuesday evening in the first league match of the season.
The Lions fall to 5-8 on the season and 0-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the result. The Blazers improve to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in league action with the victory.
Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) paced the squad with six kills and five digs on the night. Brock Pease (Marshfield, Mass.) posted five kills and five digs. Quinn Smith (Galway, N.Y.) finished with 12 assists in the match.
The home team rolled to a 25-7 win in the opening set to establish a 1-0 lead.
Elms doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-13 victory in the second frame.
The Blazers locked up their second-straight win with a 25-9 decision in the third.
Jeremy Torres paced Elms with a match-high nine kills while Luis Martinez, Carlos Mercado, and Nik Bates all registered five kills.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts Southern Vermont and nationally-ranked Endicott in a conference tri-match February 23.
