QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team notched a 3-0 victory over Pine Manor and topped Regis in a five-set nail-biter Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 5-6 on the season with the two wins. The Gators slide to 0-5 overall while the Pride moves to 2-5 on the year with Saturday's results.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) powered Eastern Nazarene with 37 kills and 23 digs on the day. Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) posted 13 kills and four blocks while Samuel Cueva (Swampscott, Mass.) tallied 12 kills. Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) registered 10 kill, 11 digs, and four blocks. Andrew Jayne (Quincy, Mass.) finished with 10 kills and 18 digs. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) dished out 77 assists on the afternoon and collected 15 digs.
In the matinee matchup, Eastern Nazarene cruised to a 3-0 victory over Pine Manor.
The Lions rolled to a 25-12 win in the opening set before claiming the second 25-13.
The hosts capped off the straight-sets victory with a 25-22 decision in the third frame.
In the third tilt of the afternoon, Eastern Nazarene outlasted Regis in a hard-fought five-set thriller behind stellar performances by Sorensen and Tyree. Sorensen racked up a program-record 29 kills in the match while Tyree set a new program mark with 52 assists.
The Lions captured the first frame 25-19 and the Pride battled back to pull even at 1-1 with a 27-25 win in the second.
The home side responded with a 25-18 victory in the third to regain a one-set advantage.
The visitors knotted the match at 2-2 after seizing the fourth set.
Eastern Nazarene triumphed in the deciding fifth set 15-8 to lock up its third win in a row.
In the middle matchup, Regis blanked Pine Manor 3-0.
Looking ahead, the Lions head to Newbury February 21 for a key New England Collegiate Conference showdown.
