Sorensen’s 20 Kills Leads Men’s Volleyball to 3-0 Win Over Mount Ida
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team rolled past Mount Ida 3-0 Thursday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 3-6 on the year with the victory while the Mustangs fall to 6-6 overall.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) racked up a season-high 20 kills and added nine digs on the night. Andrew Jayne (Quincy, Mass.) finished with six kills and six digs. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) dished out 37 assists and posted five blocks while Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) also notched five blocks in the match.
In a tight opening set, the home side fought off a set point for the visitors at 24-23 to pull even at 24-24. James Garofalo (Commack, N.Y.) came off the bench to serve up the final two points of the frame as Eastern Nazarene edged Mount Ida 26-24 to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Lions prevailed 25-23 in a closely-contested second set to widen the gap to 2-0.
The hosts cruised to a 25-16 decision in the third to snap a five-match skid.
Brett Southworth paced the Mustangs with 13 kills and 11 digs on the evening while Kevin Keohane chipped in with 28 assists and five digs.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Pine Manor and Regis in a non-conference tri-match February 17.
