Men’s Volleyball Blanks Pine Manor in Home-Opener, 3-0
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Pine Manor in the first home match of the season Wednesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions leap to 2-1 on the year with the win while the Gators slide to 0-2 overall.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) racked up a match-high 13 kills while adding eight digs and four aces. James Garofalo (Commack, N.Y.) came off the bench to post five kills and a pair of digs. Andrew Jayne (Quincy, Mass.) finished with four digs, four service aces, and three kills. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) dished out 30 assists on the night while Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) notched eight digs.
The home team grabbed a 1-0 edge with a 25-18 win in the first set.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up the final four points to claim the second frame 25-13 to extend its lead to 2-0.
The Lions fell behind 12-5 in the third set then clawed back to seize a 14-13 edge on a kill by Sorensen before the Gators regained the lead at 20-15.
The hosts rallied to outscore the visitors 10-3 down the stretch to eke out a 25-23 decision in the third.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene heads to No. 15 MIT February 2 for its first-ever match against a nationally-ranked opponent.
