CHICOPEE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Southern Vermont before falling to Elms 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference tri-match at Elms College's Picknelly Arena.
The Lions move to 7-7 on the season and 3-5 in NECC play with the results. The Mountaineers fell to 3-17 overall and 1-5 in conference action with a pair of losses Saturday. The Blazers improve to 14-7 on the year and 6-2 in league competition with two victories.
Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) paced the team with 17 kills and 21 digs on the day. Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) racked up 14 kills and 22 digs in the two matches. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) finished with 40 assists and nine digs on the afternoon.
In the first match of the day, Eastern Nazarene bested Southern Vermont for the second time this season.
The Lions glided to a 25-5 victory in the opening set before edging the Mountaineers 25-20 in the second frame.
Eastern Nazarene topped Southern Vermont 25-12 in the third game to clinch its third conference win of the year.
In the tri-match finale, the Lions dropped a 3-0 decision to Elms.
The hosts claimed the first two sets with back-to-back 25-16 victories.
The Blazers collected their fifth consecutive win with a 25-19 decision in the third game.
