Men’s Volleyball Drops Road Match at Southern Vermont, 3-1
BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback at Southern Vermont Saturday in its first road match of the season.
The Lions sink to 4-4 on the year and 2-4 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). The Mountaineers climb to 3-11 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) posted a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs on the day. Derek Fowler (Williamstown, N.J.) racked up 14 kills while Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) posted nine digs and eight kills. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) finished with a season-best 42 assists to go with five digs and five service aces.
The home side squeaked out a 28-26 win in the opening set to establish a 1-0 lead in the match.
Southern Vermont doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a narrow 29-27 victory in the second frame.
Eastern Nazarene battled back to claim the third set 25-18.
The Mountaineers prevailed 25-23 in the fourth to clinch their first conference victory of the year.
Elmer Olivares notched a match-high 23 kills and 16 digs for the hosts while Te Howard added 11 kills.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene travels to Johnson & Wales March 11 to face off against Illinois Tech, Dean, and the host Wildcats.
