Men’s Track & Field Captures Second-Place at NECC Championships, Three Individuals Earn First-Place Finishes
WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's track and field team capped off their season as first-year members of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) by capturing a second-place finish at the NECC Championships hosted by Regis College Sunday.
The Lions were represented by twelve student-athletes at the conference meet, which included three individuals claiming a first-place finish and two relay teams collecting a first-place finish as well.
Travelis Mosley (Pompano Beach, Fla.) grabbed first-place in both the 100-meter dash at 11.34 seconds and the 200-meters at 22.77 seconds.
Kevin Rodrigues (Dorchester, Mass.) placed first in the 1,500-meters with a new personal-best of 4:27.33. Rodrigues also grabbed second-place in the 800-meters at 2:12.23 seconds.
Joel Piercey (Randolph, Mass.) garnered a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at 19.27 seconds, while also claiming fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:07.96 and competing in the triple jump.
The 4x100-meter relay team compiled by Mosley, Ralph Tima (Lakeland, Fla.), Jaeden Ortiz (Deltona, Fla.), and Shawn Wright (Baltimore, Md.) earned first-place at the meet with a time of 44.28 seconds, a new school record.
Ortiz, Tima, Mosley, and Kevin Rop (Silver Spring, Md) assembled the 4x400-meter relay team that collected a first-place finish at 3:41.38 seconds.
Wright and Tima each ran in the 100-meters and 200-meters with Tima placing fifth in the 100-meters and fourth in the 200-meters, while Wright earned sixth in the 100-meters and fifth in the 200-meters. Wright also grabbed second in both the high jump and triple jump for the Lions.
Ortiz ran a personal-best 54.62 seconds in the 400-meters to collect fourth place, while Rop crossed the finish line right behind him to take fifth place.
The lone Lion in the 5000-meters, Matthew Mansaray (Acushnet, Mass.) garnered second-place with a time of 24:57.75. Mansaray also ran in the 800-meters and 1,500-meters for Eastern Nazarene.
Israel Tetuan-Chavez (Selma, Calif.) threw in both the shot put and discus throw for Eastern Nazarene, earning a third-place toss in the discus throw at 24.46 meters.
Joseph Merrigan (Quincy, Mass.) represented the Lions in the 800-meters and 1,500 meters, while Robert Gorman (Ellington, Conn.) ran in the 1,500 meters for Eastern Nazarene.
Garrett Crandell (Bristol, Tenn.) competed in the triple jump for the Lions.
Eastern Nazarene totaled 135 points to capture second-place. Newbury amassed 244 points to grab first-place, while Elms grabbed third-place, Lesley claimed fourth-place and Southern Vermont finished in fifth-place.
