Track & Field Teams Compete at Mount Holyoke Spring Fling
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's and women's track and field teams participate in the Mount Holyoke College Spring Fling Invitational Saturday.
The Lions placed fourth in the men's competition and the women's squad placed sixth.
Paul Chong (Reading, Calif.) led Eastern Nazarene's men's track and field team with a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and third-place finishes in the high jump and triple jump. The rookie turned in a mark of 18.00 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, cleared 1.78 meters in the high jump, and set a personal record with a distance of 6.67 meters in the long jump.
Frantz Ozile (Brockton, Mass.) claimed third in the shot put with a toss of 10.36 meters to establish a new personal best. Nathan Vazquez (Weymouth, Mass.) also set a personal record in the shot put with a heave of 9.16 meters to earn sixth.
Corey Doran (Fairfield, Calif.) set a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.38 to grab fifth. He also finished tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters for the second-straight meet.
Darvence Chery (Brockton, Mass.) and Rob Dukes (Spencer, Mass.) both finished in the top-10 in the 400-meter run while posting new personal bests.
On the women's side, Michelle Detwiler (Elkhart, Ind.) collected four top-10 finishes on the day. The junior captured third-place in the high jump, fourth in the 100-meter dash, and sixth in the 200-meter dash as well as the long jump.
Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) bested the field in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 10.71 meters to earn first place.
Sarah Iheduru (Providence, R.I.) recorded a personal-best distance of 24.32 meters to claim fifth in the discus throw.
In the 800-meter run, Karen Diaz (Gaithersburg, Md.) clocked in with a personal-record of 2:44.97 while Dezirae Maffit (Aurora, Ill.) crossed the finish line in 2:56.14.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene heads to Hartford, Connecticut to compete in the Trinity College Invitational April 22.
