Men’s Tennis Downed by NCAA Division II Bentley 7-2
QUINCY, Mass.- The reigning GNAC champion Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to NCAA Division II foe Bentley Monday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts in the first home match of the 2019-20 campaign.
The Lions dip to 0-1 on the year with the result while the Falcons improve to 2-0 overall with the win.
The visitors nabbed a 2-1 lead with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Mecena Salles (Maraba, Brazil) earned Eastern Nazarene's lone doubles victory, edging Kendall Au and Alexander Novins 8-7 at the second position.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) fell 8-4 at the top slot to Connor Aulson and Daniel Weitz.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) dropped an 8-7 decision to Pedro Diavan and Tawan Rattaseri at the No. 3 spot.
Bentley claimed five wins in singles action to lock up its second victory of the season.
Siercke tallied the Lions' lone singles victory, winning by retirement at the No. 1 position.
Salles absorbed a 6-2, 6-2 setback at the second spot to Aulson while Sven Grunenwald (Winden, Germany) fell 6-1, 6-0 to Jordan Soifer at the No. 3 slot.
Escobar endured a 7-5, 6-0 loss at the fourth position against Au. Rodriguez suffered a 6-3, 6-3 setback against Novins at the No. 5 spot while Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) fell to Rattaseri in the sixth singles match 6-0, 6-3.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts NCAA Division II's Franklin Pierce September 25.
