Siercke, Rodriguez Claim GNAC Major Awards as Men’s Tennis Earns Six All-GNAC Accolades
WINTHROP, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team garnered six All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference honors as the league office announced the postseason awards Wednesday, headlined by junior Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) collecting GNAC Player of the Year accolades while Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) was tabbed the GNAC Rookie of the Year.
Siercke, Rodriguez, and Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) all picked up All-GNAC first team singles honors while Siercke and Opaschowski captured the All-GNAC first team doubles nod. Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) was selected to the All-GNAC second team and the doubles duo of Rodriguez and Schoengens earned All-GNAC second team doubles laurels.
Senior Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) claimed a spot on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Siercke boasts a 12-9 record on the year, playing primarily at the top singles position. He notched five singles victories in league action.
Rodriguez posted a team-best 15-3 singles mark on the season with a 5-0 record in GNAC competition, playing mainly at the No. 4 singles spot.
Opaschowski owns a 15-6 record in singles action this year, with 10 victories coming at No. 3 position along with five wins at the second slot. In league play, Opaschowski rattled off five singles wins.
Opaschowski and Siercke have combined for a 9-2 record in doubles matches this season at the top doubles position, including a 5-0 mark in conference play.
Schoengens sports a 13-6 singles record with five victories in the GNAC. Playing primarily at the No. 5 singles spot, Schoengens also saw action at the third, fourth, and sixth singles positions this season.
The doubles tandem of Rodriguez and Schoengens paces the squad with a 13-3 record and a 5-0 mark in league matches. The pair posted five wins in league competition this spring.
This season, the Lions compiled an unblemished 5-0 mark in conference play and sports a 16-7 overall record.
Eastern Nazarene captured its first-ever GNAC Tournament title this spring and earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth. The Lions drew Yeshiva in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and will face the Maccabees May 9 at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
