Men’s Tennis Bests Bridgewater State in Regular-Season Finale
BRIDGEWATER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team capped off the regular-season with a non-conference 8-1 victory at Bridgewater State Thursday.
The Lions climb to 14-7 on the season with the win while the Bears dip to 2-9 overall.
The visitors rattled off three doubles victories to construct a 3-0 advantage.
Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) and Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) cruised past William Jones and Colin Lamusta 8-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) collected their team-best 11th doubles victory with an 8-3 win at the second spot over Jeff Pavao and Alexander Belinsky.
Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) breezed by Joshua Bean and Kendan DeBlois at the third slot, 8-0.
Eastern Nazarene notched five singles wins to log its second-straight victory.
Siercke rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top singles position over Pavao to tally his 12th victory of the year.
Opaschowski earned his team-leading 14th singles win with a 6-0, 6-3 decision at the No. 2 slot against Jones.
Rodriguez picked up his 14th singles victory of the spring as he topped Lamusta 6-0, 6-0 at the third spot.
Miguel Lopez Dial (Madrid, Spain) outlasted Bean in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 5 position. After dropping the first set 6-4, the rookie battled back to claim the second set 6-2. Lopez Dial downed Bean 10-2 in the super-tiebreaker to post his first singles win of the season in his collegiate debut.
Corey Davis (Derby, Vt.) edged Belinsky at the No. 6 slot in a third-set super-tiebreaker. Belinsky captured the opening set 6-2 before Davis responded with a 6-3 win in the second frame. Davis clipped Belinsky 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker to net his first singles victory of the year.
Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas) dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the No. 4 position to DeBlois.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts Colby-Sawyer in the GNAC semifinals April 27.
