Diego Rodriguez Tabbed GNAC Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass.- Freshman Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week, announced the league office Monday.
Rodriguez compiled a 2-1 record in singles play along with a 2-1 mark in doubles action on the week as the Lions went 2-1.
In Eastern Nazarene's victory at Norwich, Rodriguez claimed a straight-sets win at the No. 4 singles spot and teamed up with Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) to post an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles position.
Rodriguez suffered just his third setback in singles play this season as the Lions fell 7-0 at NCAA Division II's Franklin Pierce.
He capped off the week with a straight-sets victory at the No. 3 singles slot and notched an 8-5 win at the No. 2 doubles spot with Schoengens as Eastern Nazarene locked up the top seed in the GNAC North Division with a 9-0 victory at Johnson & Wales.
Eastern Nazarene boasts a 13-7 overall record and finished conference play with a 5-0 mark in it first season as a member of the GNAC.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Bridgewater State April 25 in the final regular-season match.
