Men’s Tennis Locks Up GNAC North No. 1 Seed with 9-0 Win at Johnson & Wales
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team capped off conference play with a 9-0 victory over Johnson & Wales Saturday to secure the top seed in the GNAC North Division. By virtue of the No. 1 seed in the GNAC North Division, the Lions will host a GNAC Tournament semifinal match April 27.
The Lions improve to 13-7 on the season and 5-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with the result. The Wildcats drop to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in league action with the setback.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) topped Alexander Rohana and Franz Fonck 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) collected an 8-5 win over Will Lyons and Gianni Rodrigues at the second spot.
Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) downed Brandon Case and Steven Heizler 8-2 at the third slot.
Siercke stormed past Lyons 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles position while Opaschowski notched a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot over Rohana.
Rodriguez posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fonck at the No. 3 position and Schoengens bested Rodrigues 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth singles match.
Pierson cruised past Heizler 6-2, 6-2 at the fifth slot and Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas) claimed his fourth singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the No. 6 spot against Robert Michalofsky.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene concludes the regular season April 25 on the road at Bridgewater State.
