Men’s Tennis Triumphs 9-0 in First-Ever Matchup at Norwich
NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team nabbed its fifth-straight victory with a 9-0 decision at Norwich Monday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Lions climb to 12-6 on the season and remain unbeaten at 4-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with the win. The Cadets fall to 8-9 overall and 0-3 in league action with the result.
Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) and Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) topped Dylan Ackerman and Sam Beiter 8-3 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) bested Alexi Gilmore and Noah Stillman 8-4 at the second spot.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) blanked Tim Birnbaum and Abbie Barker 8-0 at the No. 3 slot.
Siercke collected a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the top singles position over Ackerman for his 10th singles win of the year.
Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gilmore at the No. 2 slot.
Opaschowski posted his eighth-consecutive victory with a 6-0, 6-2 decision at the No. 3 spot against Beiter.
Rodriguez picked up his team-best 12th singles win of the season as he downed Tim Santy 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth singles match.
Schoengens defeated Barker 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 position while Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas) earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Birnbaum at the sixth slot.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to NCAA Division II foe Franklin Pierce April 11.
