Siercke, Rodriguez Sweep GNAC Men’s Tennis Weekly Awards
WINTHROP, Mass.- Junior Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team has been tabbed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week while freshman Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) earned GNAC Rookie of the Week honors, announced the league office Monday.
The duo helped the Lions notch victories over Regis, Endicott, and Suffolk to extend the team's winning-streak to four matches.
Siercke posted a 6-0 record on the week with three wins at the No. 1 singles position and three victories at the No. 1 doubles spot with Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany).
Rodriguez tallied six wins on the week with three victories in singles and doubles play each. The rookie played a pair of matches at the No. 4 singles slot and dropped just one game before posting his first win at the No. 3 singles position to cap off the week. In doubles action, Rodriguez partnered with Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) for two matches at the No. 2 spot and teamed up with Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) once at the No. 2 position.
Eastern Nazarene boasts an 11-6 overall record and a 3-0 mark in GNAC action.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene travels to Norwich April 8.
